The Watchers

Hidden deep within the corn, lies a place that shouldn't exist. A dark and alien world formed by creatures known only as The Watchers. For centuries, they remained trapped beyond a thin veil separating their realm from ours.

Silent.

Patient.

Waiting.

Everything changed in 2020.As the world battled a pandemic, West Haven Farmer, Blair Ray McFarland, planted corn in a large field to the North-East of his home with the intent of opening a corn maze to the public to bring joy and laughter to the world in a difficult time.

At first, the growing season seemed on schedule and ordinary. The corn seeds sprouted. The stalks grew. Summer passed without incident. But as the corn grew higher than Blair was tall, he began to notice unsettling things.

Movement where there should be none.

Fast-moving shadows slipping between the rows.

Whispers carried on windless nights.

And impossible, almost indiscernible figures watching him from deep within the field.

The sightings became more frequent as the air cooled and autumn approached. The creatures never attacked, never spoke, and never crossed beyond the corn.

They simply watched.

Until one moonless night when Blair ventured deep into the corn and discovered the truth.

The corn field stretched forever. The deeper he walked, the farther the field stretched.

The corn no longer belonged to this world. The rows twisted into impossible shapes, leading him into a vast and cold domain hidden between realities. There he met The Watchers.

Ancient beings of bark, bone, and shadow. Creatures that had existed long before mankind but had been trapped beyond the veil separating their world from ours. Somehow, the growing corn had pierced that barrier and given them a doorway into our world. The Watchers offered Blair a bargain.

His family would be spared.

His land would prosper.

His crops would never fail.

But each autumn, when the veil grows thin and The Watchers grow hungry, visitors must enter the corn of their own free will. Not all who enter are taken. The Watchers enjoy screams just as much as flesh. They stalk their victims through the darkness, feeding on screams, panic, and terror. Those who survive are allowed to leave with only fragments of memory and nightmares that linger for years. Those chosen by the Watchers are never seen again.

To this day, the McFarland family honors this agreement. They partnered with an unsuspecting entrepreneur to lure victims in with a haunted house façade. Unsuspecting patrons willingly line up every fall, believing it to be just another haunted attraction.

They laugh.

They scream.

They panic.

They never leave.

And deep within the corn, unseen eyes watch from the darkness.

Hungry.

Waiting.

Counting down the days.

Because once the harvest moon rises, The Watchers awaken. And they search for their next sacrifice...The corn is the doorway.
